EDDIE GALE CELEBRATES RE-RELEASE OF HIS FIRST TWO, INNOVATIVE ALBUMS FROM THE BLUE NOTE LABEL ON CD AND VINYL.  THE EVENT WILL BENEFIT THE JAZZ HOUSE.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Legendary jazz great, Eddie Gale, re-releases "Eddie Gale’s Ghetto Music" and "Black Rhythm Happening" on CD and vinyl in a concert benefiting a youth jazz non-profit.

Berkeley, CA (July 3, 2003)- Trumpeter, composer, educator Eddie Gale will be hosting two (2) intimate concerts and celebrations on the eve of the re-release of two of his earliest most innovative recordings, originally on the Blue Note label. The performances will be held at The Jazz House on July 25th and 26th, at 8:00PM. The Jazz House is a 501(c)3 organization located at 3192 Adeline Street at Martin Luther King Blvd in Berkeley, CA. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door, prior to the show, for $15.

The recordings, ‘Eddie Gales’ Ghetto Music’ and ‘Black Rhythm Happening’, were first released in 1968-69 when Blue Note Record’s legendary producer, Francis Wolff, signed Gale to the label. Stepping outside of the usual Blue Note sound, these recordings didn’t fit the traditional jazz sounds of the day, encompassing many of the elements of today’s hip-hop and soul music. Gale’s use of a vocal ensemble in a jazz context became signature elements to Gale’s music and was featured on both releases, each including eleven (11) voices. ‘Ghetto Music’ uniquely included two bass players and two drummers. The ‘Black Rhythm Happening’ album featured famed jazz artists Elvin Jones and Jimmy Lyons, as well as Mattathias Pearson and Roland Alexander.

The recordings are being re-released on both CD on the 4 Men with Beards label, and on 180 gram vinyl via the Water Records label.
